Applique T-Shirts

I don't know what has gotten in to me today but I am actually going to attempt to applique two little t-shirts.  The cost per shirt is around $2.00 so if I fail then I don't have much in it and won't feel so bad.
Before washing.
Next, I stitched around each design.
Detail of 1/4" allowance.
On the cross I stitch about 1/4" in because I want the edges to fray (the wonder under didn't go all the way to the edge in order to allow the edges to fray).
But, on the bird design I just stitched right on the edge.  Lastly, the cross t-shirt had to be washed to get the edges to fray.  The best thing about this kind of applique is that the more you wash it the better it looks.  I love the frayed edges and it hides any imperfections in my sewing (gotta love that).
My little devil angel in her new shirt.
This project turned out to be easier than I anticipated.  I might even be brave enough to try it again in the future.

  1. This shirt can be used as part of a halloween costume. Nice.
